Orange Cardommon Baked French Toast
This is a wonderful Spring Brunch Recipe! We hope your friends and family enjoy it! Call us and let us know if it was a hit for your crowd.....
1 ¼ cups orange marmalade
French or egg bread sliced 1 inch thick (enough to fit snuggly in one layer in bottom of baking dish)
1 ¼ cups whole milk
¾ cup whipping cream
½ cup sugar
6 large eggs
1 ¼ tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp grated orange peel OR ¼ tsp orange oil*
Butter or spray a 15x10 glass or ceramic baking dish. Fit bread snuggly in one layer in baking dish. You may have to cut pieces to fit. Spread marmalade evenly over top side of each bread slice. Whisk milk, whipping cream, sugar, eggs, cardamom and orange oil together in large bowl. Pour custard over bread. Let stand at least 1 hour or cover and refrigerate overnight. Serves 6
*Orange Oil can be purchased at Williams Sonoma or through the Baker's Catalogue
Pre heat oven to 350°. Bake French toast, uncovered, until puffed and golden brown, about 50 minutes.
