February 2008
Volume 1-1

Thanks to all of our guests making our second summer season at the Carriage House Inn such a successful season.  Many of you took the time and effort to write into www.TripAdvisor.com about your stay with us, and we are thrilled that you voted the Carriage House Inn the number #1 B&B in Chatham, Cape Cod and we are honored by your wonderful comments. We are always trying to think of things that will improve our guest’s stay, so if you have any suggestions for us - we sincerely appreciate your feedback.

During March we are planning updates to our Carriage House rooms such as: all new carpeting in rooms 4, 5, and 6, as well as new flat screen televisions and DVD players in rooms 5 and 6. Additionally, we are redecorating Room 6 from top to bottom, with fresh paint, white paneling, new furniture, draperies and comfortable chairs to read or gaze at the fireplace.

For those of you who are thinking of the beach, I wanted to let you know about one of my favorite discoveries from last summer: The Beachcomber Shuttle. The Beachcomber Shuttle is a yellow skiff boat that wisks you to an island beach with miles of white sand and gorgeous shells. Take the shuttle from Chatham’s fish pier (just a 10 minute walk from the Inn) and in no time at all you are on the most pristine, private beach, and the only sound you hear is the sound of the surf. The shuttle runs approximately every 15 minutes from 10am - 4pm each day during the summer season.  Check out our summer specials for 5 and 7 night stays!

For all the theater lovers out there, here's a sample of
some of the upcoming local theater productions...

Harriet the Spy - 2/15/2008 - 3/09/2008
Would make a great Mother-Daughter getaway! Harriet M. Welsch is a spy, but she’s no ordinary spy. This eleven-year-old isn’t spying on her neighbors to be nosy, to be mean, or even to help the government. Nope...she’s just an aspiring writer who believes keeping track of everything she sees and thinks is good practice for her burgeoning career. However, when someone gets a hold of her notebook, they think her antics are anything but harmless.

Little Women, The Musical at the Harwich Junior Theater - 3/28/2008 - 4/27/2008
The classic story of the March sisters comes to life with music and dancing in Little Women. Phone 508-432-2002, or www.hjtcapecod.org

Baked Pears with Oatmeal Crumble
This is the perfect warm seasonal breakfast first course... Tim serves them with a dollop of fresh whipped cream! We consistently get numerous requests for this recipe, and we are happy to share it with all of you!

6 Tablespoons cold unsalted butter, diced
3 Firm Bosc Pears cut in half and seeds scooped out with a melon baller
1 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
1/3cup flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ cup light brown sugar
¼ cupgranulated sugar
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground ginger
Pinch of salt

Butter a baking dish large enough to hold the pears. Mix oatmeal, flour, baking powder, both sugars, vanilla, salt and ginger together in a bowl. Add cold butter and mix with pastry blender until mixture holds together and resembles coarse meal. Press handful of mixture onto each pear half and place pears in baking dish. Bake in a preheated 375° oven until tops are lightly brown and pears are cooked through, about 1 hour. Serve warm. Serves 6.
